Government Providing Free Lunches For School's

The government has announced that she will be giving free lunches to some schools around New Zealand.

The free lunches will start with 30 primary and intermediate schools, from the beginning of next year.
The plan is to expand the programme to at less 21,000 children in 120 schools by 2021.

Jacinda Ardern said in her speech that 10,000 New Zealanders helped support and develop this idea. 6,000 of them were children, who pointed out that going to school hungry was a barrier to their learning.

I think this is a very good idea for our schools. What do you think about this idea?

Tall Blacks Beaten By Canada

The Tall Blacks have been beaten by Canada by 122-88.

The result comes less than a month out from the FIBA world cup. The Tall Blacks were outplayed for large parts of the game.

Canada was quick on the break, but importantly, made the most of their free jump shots. They lead by 19 by the end of the 1st quarter.

The Tall blacks did improve in the second half, however, towards the end of the game the score blew out to end a disappointing night for the New Zealanders.

The next game is on Wednesday night. Do you think the Tall Blacks will come back?

Kayaking

Last Friday my class went Kayaking at Wero White water park. My dad and Diego's mum went with us too.

When we arrived there we straight away put on our togs and our safety gear on. We then pulled the kayaks out and a paddle each. We finally started to kayak. When I was turning around I tipped over and fell out.

I fell out of my kayak a few times but it was a lot of fun and I wouldn't mind doing it again.

When I finished cutting the joint I chiseld out the rest of the wood with a chisel and a mallet. After that I put my joint in. It was a bit lose but Mr Grundy will glue it.

I hope I can finish the rest off in the next three weeks.

Tech Wood Works

I have chosen to make a phone holder for myself. I think this is the best option for me because when I watch videos on my phone, I have no where to stand it up.

It will be used to hold my phone and to stand my phone up while it charges or while I'm watching videos.

For this project I will have to consider making it useful for me.

Hump Ridge Walks Wins Great Walk Title

The new walk won a special contest to select New Zealand's next great walk.

The 61km track in Southland will now be upgraded, transforming it from a two night to three nights experience. We think it will officially become a great walk in 2022.

The Department of Conservation began the hunt in 2017. They made this walk because it's to get people moving and to get fit. Would you go on this walk?

On Friday my whole class and I went to the Wero Whitewater Park in Manukau. I was excited to go but nervous at the same time.

When we arrived there the Receptionist took us into a room to watch two films of Wero Whitewater Park. One about why they made the wate
r park and the last about safety. Then we put the wet suits and shoes on. Everyone was struggling to put them on. When we finished putting them on we put life jackets on and a helmets.

We met our instructors Ethan, Chris and Jaja. We had to get into three groups. First we had to get use to the water and the strong currents before going on the boats. We went on the boats and we could stand up so we did. My favourite bit of the trip was jumping in to the strong currents and swimming.

After all it was a really fun day and I hope we could go next year.

Kiwican Week 1!

Image result for kiwicanToday my class did kiwican with Miss Tuia and Mrs Mac. Mrs Mac covered for Mr Matt.

We focused on being respectful to others around us, don't be shy and give it a go. Our  topic we focused on was integrity and honesty.

Then we got in a circle one by one told them what our names were. When that was done we played a game called bang. (How to play).  A person calls out your name and then you duck down, then the people on the side of you gets to say bang. The first person to say bang wins and the person on the side sits down. I didn't win, but that's was okay.

We played another game called change places if. So a person says a question, like if your favourite colour is blue then you change places. If your the last one standing up you have to do five star jumps.  I had a lot of fun and can't wait for next week Tuesday.

Shades And Highlights With Paint

At Tech in Miss Ferguson's class we did shades and highlights with paint. I was actually excited.

The colours we used first was blueyellow and redprimary colours. First we learnt how to paint smoothly and not use big blobs of paint. Then we mixed the colours together, like mixing yellow and red together to make orange, blue and yellow make green, and blue and red make purplesecondary colours.

When we finished painting and mixing the paints together, we went on to how to do shades and highlights  with black and white paint. Now, I was nervous on this bit, because I didn't really know how to do it but I tried.

Softball

On Wednesday we went to the interschool softball competition at Dunkirk. I was nervous but excited at the same time. When we arrived, there were already schools practising. We were all getting scared now. So we went into the shade and started practising our softball skills.

Then the siren went off for the first round of the game! The first team we played was Te Kura Kaupapa Maori O Puau Te Moananui A Kiwa school. The leader from this school did a toss with   our leader, Jessica, to see who would field or bat first. Ruapotaka won the toss and decided to field and we started the game. Our team didn't win but it was a really cool day.
